Labour Migration

South and South-West Asia includes some of the world’s migration extremes; India was the leading recipient of remittances in 2010, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)2 countries, a destination location for many migrants from the subregion, rely on foreign labour to fill over 90 per cent of their private-sector jobs. Most of the ten countries examined in this report experience net outmigration, and the majority of them would like to see more of its skilled workers move abroad to enhance migrant protection and maximize remittances.
